Once a bloody battleground where the creek waters ran red -  now the final resting place of Detroit's leading families and most notorious denizens.

Join the Obscura Society and The League of Adventurous Detroiters for an October exploration of the historic Elmwood Cemetery, the oldest continuously non-denominational cemetery in Michigan and home to 42 acres of monuments to the dead.

The property also includes part of Parents Creek, site of the 1763 native uprising known as the Battle of Bloody Run, where the blood of British soldiers alledgedly stained the waters red.

Amy Elliott Bragg (who blogs about early Detroit history on the excellent nighttraintodetroit.com) will be joining us as guide. Amy is spends a weird amount of free time wandering around old cemeteries. Join her to learn about gruesome battles, and meet a host of notable dead Detroiters: from governors, mayors, historians, soldiers, and sailors to distillers, fur traders, former slaves, one hysterical Victorian actress, and maybe a cursed cholera victim.

The tour will meet at the main gate of Elmwood Cemetery, next door to Mt. Elliot Cemetery.
